LAHORE, May 30: Imam of Kaaba Dr Abdur Rehman Al-Sudais led the Maghrib prayers at Badshahi Mosque on Wednesday which were attended by a mammoth gathering of hundreds of thousands of faithfuls.

In his speech after the prayers, Al-Sudais asked Muslims to strive for unity and solidarity in their ranks, which would ultimately help resolve all their problems.

PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi also attended the paryers.

Earlier, AL-Sudais attended a certificate distribution ceremony of Jamia Ashrafia at Aiwan-i-Iqbal. Speaking there, he asked the Ummah to acquire knolwedge as it was a pre-requisite for the promotion of peace, love, tolerance and brotherhood.

“Muslims should also learn the knowledge of Quran and Sunnah to resolve their contemporary problems.”

PU: He also visited the Punjab University mosque and led Asr prayers there.

Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qazi Husain Ahmed and student leaders also spoke on the occasion.

The Imam of Kaaba said that anti-Islam elements wanted to destroy Ummah by creating difference in its ranks. “The remedy with Muslims is to strictly follow the teachings of Islam and get united,” he added.

He said that Islam taught moderation at all levels and advocated peace and goodwill for every one.

He said public and the rulers must discharge their responsibilities by following the principles of Islam.

Sheikh Abdur Rehman led Fajr prayers at Jamia Ashrafia.

The Jamia administration had made arrangements for 7,000 people, but more than 60,000 people showed up, who thus stood outside the mosque to offer prayers.

He would again lead the Fajr prayers at Jamia Ashrafia on Thursday (today).—APP
